HSUS
“In resources and membership, the Humane Society of the United
States is the largest animal rights group in the country.
Despite HSUS on-going campaigns against modern animal
agriculture, rodeos, hunting, trapping, pet breeding and other
animal uses, its image as a “be-kind-to-pets” organization
allows it to collect mainstream contributions from an
unsuspecting public....” (from the book: Animal Rights: The
Inhumane Crusade
by Daniel Oliver, published by Capital Research Center,
www.capitalresearch.com
The HSUS, a 501 © 3
organization, claims over a million members. These “members” are
the people who send in donations to the HSUS. It should be noted
that the HSUS has NO relationship with local humane societies
and up until very recently funded NO shelters and NO spay and
neuter projects. Major projects of HSUS are campaigns and
anti-animal laws. The HSUS has claimed to have ten full time
lobbyists walking the halls of Congress to put their agenda on
the desks of legislators and their staffers. The HSUS holds
“lobby
days” in almost every state, where HSUS representatives and
their followers visit the state legislators and “educate” them
about animal issues. At a recent HSUS legislative seminar, a
HSUS official stated that HSUS “writes the laws” that are put
forward by legislators on many animal issues.
Recently, when the Primate Safety Act was passed by the US House
of Representatives, the media stated that it was passed as a
result of the efforts of the animal rights activists. This
proposed law has nothing to do with protection of the public or
of the primates. Titles to laws are designed to create a
specific image in the minds of the public in order to gain their
support. These titles do not accurately reflect the intent or
the content of the proposed law, which is generally designed to
restrict, control or prohibit animal uses.
The HSUS is considered to be the most dangerous animal rights
organization in terms of their agenda, funding and goal: TO END
ALL ANIMAL USE. And, that includes pets.
Some important quotes by HSUS officials:
Michael W. Fox, VP HSUS:
“The life of an ant and that of my child should be granted equal
consideration.” from the book: Inhumane Society, 1990.
Michael W. Fox, VP HSUS:
“We are not superior. There are no clear distinctions between us
and animals.” Washingtonian, February 1990.
Wayne Pacelle, President HSUS:
“One generation and out. We have no problems with the extinction
of domestic animals. They are the creations of human selective
breeding.” from Animal People News, May 1, 1993.
